My Portfolio

Graphic Design is something I have always been interested in. As well as my college studies, I enjoy taking on personal projects outside of college which I feel help me develop my skills. In my Portfolio I have included a range of projects both set in college and projects taken on in my own time.

In my first year at college I was set a brief to create a brand under the theme of ‘mystery and imagination.’ This project was inspired by a 3D style graffiti artist named DAIM. In an interview with DAIM he said that he wanted his works to look as if the exploded off the canvas and I decided to take this idea and apply it, more literally, to my branding. This project was done in timed conditions where I produced 2 posters, a website and a can wrap. The next college project in this Portfolio is my design for a juice drink carton. The brief was to create a juice drink carton with a fresh simplified look. In this project I was able to experiment with both typography and simplified imagery to create the final design. I have also included one of my typographic development pages from my sketchbook.

As well as the above projects I have included some of my own work from outside of college. I have entered some designs into online competitions, mainly in the field of logo design. I upload the logos to a website called Mycroburst where they are judged by clients. I have also entered the poster design “Its not what you win, but how you conquer it” to the typographic games competition.

The reason I chose Manchester Metropolitan for Graphic design was the huge variety of disciplines I will be able to experiment with to communicate my ideas. Exploring techniques and areas of design such as motion graphics which I haven’t had the chance to previously, is something that I am keen to achieve. I hope that taking the course further onto university will help me develop my ideas and gain more experience using different techniques and help broaden my knowledge of Graphic Design as a whole.
